John B. Catoe Jr.

John B. Catoe, Jr. is the former general manager of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority from 2007 to 2010. He was sworn in on January 27, 2007, replacing Jack Requa, the acting General Manager.[1] Catoe was born and raised in a low-income area of Washington, D.C. and spent the majority of his childhood in the city, graduating from Spingarn High School.[2]

Career

Prior to accepting the position at Metro, Catoe was the second-ranking official of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.[2]

Catoe's contract with Metro was renewed through 2012, with all but one board member voting in favor of the renewal.[3]

On January 14, 2010, Catoe announced his resignation from Metro, effective April 2, 2010.[4] His resignation came after a year in which Metro saw a record number of fatal accidents, including 15 deaths and the June 22, 2009 Washington Metro train collision, which killed nine people.
